Brigadier General Yahya Saree, spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, has announced a missile strike on Saudi Arabia’s Ras Tanura oil refinery in the Eastern Province, saying the attack hit its designated target and triggered major fires at the facility.
In a statement issued Tuesday, Saree also announced a separate operation targeting two Saudi military transport aircraft with ballistic missiles.
He said one aircraft was targeted at Najran Airport and the other at King Khalid Air Base in Khamis Mushait, adding that both missiles struck their intended targets.
Ras Tanura is a major oil refining and export complex operated by Saudi Aramco on the Persian Gulf, playing a significant role in the kingdom’s energy infrastructure and crude oil exports.
Meanwhile, media reports cited powerful explosions in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, following attacks attributed to Yemeni forces. The city of Al-Kharj, south of Riyadh, was also reportedly targeted by several projectiles. These reports have not been independently verified.
The latest announced operations come amid escalating hostilities between Saudi Arabia and Yemen. Yemeni forces have reported a series of retaliatory missile and drone operations against Saudi military and energy-related facilities, including targets in Riyadh, Yanbu and Rabigh.
Saree has reiterated that Yemen’s military operations are a response to Saudi attacks on the country, maintaining that continued aggression will be met with retaliation.
The latest escalation followed Saudi Arabia’s July bombing of Sana’a International Airport. In response, Yemen’s armed forces adopted a “blockade for blockade” policy, declaring a maritime embargo on Saudi shipping in the Red Sea in retaliation for an “unjust and oppressive siege” on Yemen that had continued for nearly 12 years.
Saudi Arabia and its allies launched a military campaign against Yemen in March 2015, imposing a blockade and beginning a large-scale offensive backed by the United States and other Western countries through military, political and logistical support.
The war has inflicted devastating losses on Yemen, killing hundreds of thousands of people.
Yet, despite years of military intervention and blockade, Saudi Arabia has failed to achieve its central objective of restoring a puppet regime in Sana’a aligned with its interests.
